This is a Besson 723 cornet, made by Boosey and Hawkes in England in 1985 (using serial number lists on the internet). I've added a new photo taken in daylight which shows this really is silver plated, sorry about the other ones which make it look lacquered, but it is silver. At this time B&H were considered on of the best brass band instrument makers. This model is one down from the Sovereign. Looking online there appeared to be various versions of the 723, the ones in the early 1980 are described as the Sovereign 923 model without the first valve trigger, slightly later ones are described as sharing lots of parts with the Sovereign. I think this is one of these, not the much later "723" which was a cheaper-made cornet. It has the forward facing water keys that were a feature of the early Sovereigns. This is a very well made, solid instrument that plays well. It clearly has been used over the years and have a number of minor dents and dings - the worst bit is the bottom of the tuning slide and the bit of the bell alongside it have multiple small dents - please see the picture of that area. It doesn't affect how it plays though.

It comes in a later Besson case that's in OK condition - it's missing on of the zip pull (replaced by a key ring to make it useable).
